COLONIE – Shirley L. Ogren, 81, passed away suddenly at home on April 28, 2014.
Born in Albany, she was the daughter of Edmend and Pauline Engel. Shirley attended school at Philip Livingston. In her later years, she was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Colonie Garage for many years.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She has a great sense of humor and always made everyone laugh. Shirley enjoyed vacationing in Maine with her husband, taking day trips, eating at nice restaurants and preparing large family meals on Saturdays. She loved decorating the house, both inside and out, at Christmas. In her younger years, she enjoyed working with ceramics and creating many things that still decorate her house today. Shirley was an avid Boston Red Sox fan as well as a fan of any team that was playing the Yankees that night; she enjoyed watching the Red Sox beat the Yankees.
Shirley was the devoted wife of 63 years to Roy Ogren, Jr.; mother of Sharon (George) Swint of Colonie, Karen (Bruce) Goldberg of Clifton Park, Carol Ogren of Niskayuna and John (Jeanine) Ogren of Colonie. She was a wonderful grandmother to Jason (Rachael) Goldberg, Stacy (Dean) Rogers, Keri (Chad) Peek, Scott Goldberg, Joshua Goldberg, Nikki Goldberg, Amy Goldberg, Christopher (Jeannie) Swint, Shawn Swint, Eric Ogren, Melissa Ogren, Zachary Ogren, Warren Ogren, Ashley Ogren and Jessica (Gally) Langdon, as well as great-grandmother of Katelyn and Kelly Swint, Jocelyn Kimber, and Caroline and Warren Ogren, Jr. Shirley is also survived by brothers Ronald and Robert Engel; sister-in-law Mary Engel; brother-in-law William (Caroline) Ogren and Robert (Marylee) Ogren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley was predeceased by Edmend (Ruth) Engel, Jean (Robert) Wilson, Jack (Margaret) Engel, Donald Engel and Jerry Engel.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice in Shirley's name.
