COLONIE – Shirley M. O'Brien Lenge, 82, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2009 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, after a long illness. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late James J. and Florence O'Brien. Shirley had lived in Colonie for over 50 years. She was a telephone operator for the former A.T. & T. from where she retired after 32 years of service. Shirley was a long time member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a former member of the Colonie Elks Ladies Auxiliary. She loved spending time in her later years vacationing and shopping with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed her once a month get- together with her childhood friends from "Club". Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Dewey M. Lenge, Jr.. She is the devoted mother of Dennis M. (Sharon) Lenge of Columbia, SC and Joseph B. (Heidi) Lenge of Colonie. Shirley is the cherished grandmother of Jenell and Daniel Lenge and Brien and Kristina Lenge. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Joan (the late Fred) Wiener and Rosemary O'Brien as well as several nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her brother, James J. O'Brien.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). The parish family of Christ the King will gather at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Christ the King Church, Guilderland. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern NY, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY 12206 in memory of Shirley M. Lenge.
