Shirley Magilton

December 8, 1929 — May 26, 2018

Guilderland- Shirley Magilton, a faithful servant, was called home by her Lord. She left her earthly home early Saturday morning, May 26, 2018 and arrived in heaven.

Born on December 8, 1929 in Schenectady, a daughter of the late Dolf and Bertha Groff LaValley. A lifelong resident of the area, long time member of Pineview Community church and past member of Lynnwood reformed church.
She graduated from Mt. Pleasant high school in 1947.

Shirley married her loving husband, Harold W. Magilton, who she met while working as a teenager for Chase grocery store. They married June 6, 1948 at Woodlawn reformed church. It was a loving union of almost 60 years until his passing in 2008.

Shirley worked for the Guilderland school district lunch program in various positions. From 1963 as a cashier, progressing to kitchen work and then moving on to head cook in 1971; where she and her staff, not only prepared lunches for the middle school, but packed and shipped lunches to elementary schools in the district. She retired in 1986 to spend more time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed being with her family and never forgot a birthday or anniversary. She especially loved time spent with all her great grandchildren.

Shirley loved the arts; going to organ and theater performances. She sang with the Festival choir for 30 years.

She is survived by her children, Sheila Pagnotti (Robert), Keith Magilton, Dennis Magilton (Elise) and Kevin Magilton; sister, Marjorie Bryce; grandchildren, Aaron (Jennifer), Brian, Victoria (Warren), Christopher (Kelly) and Jessica (Leon) and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Veivia and two grandchildren, Sandra and Justin. She is also survived by a very dear long time friend, Geraldine Haight.

Memorial contributions can be made to Pineview Community Church or American Diabetic Association.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 4pm until 7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, 12205. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10am at Pineview Community church, 251 Washington Ave, Albany, burial will follow at Schenectady Memorial Park.
