LATHAM- Simon Shui-Mu Wu, 72, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on August 4, 1936 in Beigang, Taiwan, the youngest son of Hsi and Huo Chen Wu.
He graduated from Taipei Institute of Technology in 1957. After several years employed as a chemical engineer, he continued his education in the United States, earning a Master's in Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1969. After working as a chemical engineer, he studied nuclear medicine technology and worked at St. Michael's Hospital in Newark, New Jersey in nuclear medicine until 1974. In 1975, he began work as a supervisor in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, N.Y. In 1987, he began employment as an environmental engineer at the New York State Department of Conservation until his retirement in 2005. He was active in the local Taiwan-American Cultural Society of the Capital District and attended the Chinese Christian Church of Greater Albany. He enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, listening to opera and classical music, and playing the accordion.
He was lovingly dedicated to his family and is survived by his beloved wife, Su-O, his three sons, Huntz, Leon, and Charles; his daughters-in-law, Yulin, Ma-Ping, and Nikki; and his two grandchildren, Vivian and Ian.
Memorial services will be held at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) on Saturday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Taiwan-American Cultural Society of the Capital District at 183 Boxwood Drive, Schenectady, NY 12303 or to the Chinese Christian Church of Greater Albany at 901 Madison Avenue, Albany, NY 12208 would be appreciated.
