Sidney Gettleman

April 28, 1927 — January 28, 2021

East Greenbush-Sidney Gettleman A.K.A. "Dancing Sid",93, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2021 at the Hospice Inn at St Peter's Hospital after a month long battle with Covid-19.

Born in Albany, Sidney was the son of the late Samuel and Clara Gettleman. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years Evelyn Gettleman and his brother Alex Gettleman.

Sid worked construction all of his life-he was a carpenter by trade but worked as the Superintendent of Construction on many large projects in Albany including the South Mall, The Dunn Memorial Bridge, Macy's, etc.

Sid was a Navy Veteran during World War II, which he was very proud of!

After his wife passed in 1996, he took a job as Dance Host on cruise ships. That was by far his favorite job of all time-Sid just Loved to Dance! And Dance he did- whether it be an Outdoor Venue, Ballroom Dance, Or The Rivers Casino to the Oldies Show Band, didn't matter, he'd be on the Dance Floor!
At Atria Shaker where he resided for the past 3 years he was known as "Sid the Dancer"
Sid was also an Awesome Magician. He Loved entertaining people with his sleight of hand magic and card tricks and I have to say he was pretty awesome at it! He was an Amazing Man, And a Truly Wonderful Dad. He will be Greatly Missed!

Sid is survived by his daughter Dawn Johnson (the late Richard), Mark Gettleman (Judy). He will also be missed by his grandchildren; Jason, Jennifer (Scott), Joshua, Cindy (Larry),Gregg, (Kathleen) & Aimee as well as many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. His brother Irving Gettleman also survives him.
