ALBANY- Sondra C. (Goldberg) Ryan of Albany, died on Friday May 2, 2008 at St. Peters Hospital. She was born December 25, 1929 in Brooklyn and was the daughter of the late Estelle G. Levin and Ben Goldberg and step daughter of Julius Levin.
Sondra has been an Albany resident since 1940. She spent over 30 years in the private sector as an executive secretary and bookkeeper. Sondra retired in 1992 from New York State Office of Mental Retardation. She was an elected CSEA delegate and shop steward.
Sondra was volunteer election inspector in the 10th ward for many years at the former Vincentian High School. She hosted Dutchmaid home parties and worked as a secretary part time for Philip H. Furie Insurance and Dr. Kenneth L. Stack, optometrist. She was a past President and officer of the AARP Chapter 2873 and the United Order of True Sisters. Sondra volunteered at Ohav Sholom Apartments and was an AARP instructor. She was an avid reader and enjoyed music and figure skating. She thoroughly enjoyed hosting parties for her family and friends.
She was predeceased by husband William J. Ryan Jr. and her brother Jerome W. Goldberg. She is the mother of Barry E. (Patricia) Ryan, Ronald M. Ryan, and Kathryn Ryan (John) Dolny. She is the grandmother of Michael P. and Meghan M. Ryan and John Ryan Dolny. She is the sister of Mike Levin and the dear friend of Velma Wexler. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 5 to 7 pm at Newcomer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave).
