Schenectady - Sonie L. O'Donnell, 69, passed away at Hoag Irvine Hospital, California, on Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
Born on August 19, 1948 in Albany, a daughter of the late George and Muriel Jean Moore Garhartt. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank O'Donnell. A lifelong resident of the capital district, residing in Schenectady for the past 26 years.
Sonie worked for many years at Brooks Doughnuts before going on to work as one of the 1st Meter Maids for Albany Police Department. Sonie retired as Manager of Atlantic Oil & Refining in Albany.
Sonie is survived by her son, John "Jay" Hammond of Irvine, Ca., siblings, David Garhartt (Carol), Ross Garhartt (Leon Beah), Gene Garhartt (Karen), Richard Garhartt (Linda), Ronald Garhartt, LuAnn Burgess (John), Robin Garhartt (Patricia), Tammy LaFontaine and Randall Garhartt. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 9:30am at St. Pius the X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd, Loudonville, NY, 12211. Calling hours for Sonie will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 4pm until 7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road,, Colonie, 12205. Burial will follow at Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave. Menands, 12206.
