BALLSTON LAKE – Sophia Doherty, 93, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, surrounded by her loving family.
Sophia was born on March 21, 1920 in Queens, NY and was the daughter of the late Michael and Parasceva (Oleynyk) Oleksyn. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, taking long drives with her husband and spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren.
Sophia is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, John W. Doherty; her loving children, Suzanne (Bob) Benning, Doreen (Steve) Fuller, John Doherty and Lorraine (Richard) O'Connor; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Frank Anetzberger and her siblings, Anna, Martha, Charlie and Michael.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
