SCHENECTADY – Sophia Zebrowski, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Leonka) Butrym. She worked for the Watervliet Arsenal during the Korean War and then went to work for NYS Department of Taxation and Finance. She enjoyed traveling and cooking, but most especially spending time with her family.
Sophia is survived by her daughters, Kathy Shannon of Madisonville, KY and Marsha Horton of Schenectady; her grandchildren, Eileen (Mike) Shannon, Mark (Kathy) Wickham, Andy (Elana) Wickham, Jason (Robin) Shannon, Steven Zebrowski, Jennifer (Eric) Baestlein and Stephanie (Tom) Holt; 20 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She is the sister of Joseph (Wanda) Butrym and Leona Butrym both of Schenectady. She was predeceased by her husband, William W. Zebrowski; her son, William E. Zebrowski; her grandson, Lance Shannon and her three brothers, John, Ben and Victor Butrym.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Community Hospice of Schenectady, especially Donna Holly, Jan Hoke and Pat Fishbough, for their care and support.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery in Schenectady.
