Spencer James Whitney, born June 3, 2002, left this world on Sunday, March 31st 2024 at 21 years of age.
He is survived by his parents, Faith (Kevin) Whitney, Michael (Lindsey) Whitney, his siblings Derek, Ally, Chase, Troy, and Quinn, his niece Maya, his grandparents Renee (Mike) Herzog, James-Cody (Betty) Capozzi, Charles (Deanna) Whitney, Cherie Wrighter, and Keith Cail, his great grandmothers, Shirley Crowley, and Gloria Cail, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends- all too numerous to list, and all of whom love him dearly and will miss him profoundly.
As we grieve our loss, we take pause to remember what Spencer brought into our lives. Spencer impacted many with the depth of his spirit, his unique perspective, his distinct voice, and a smile that began in his eyes and lit up the room.
If you knew Spencer, you knew Derek. They were best friends, brothers, and an inseparable duo who charged life together as a force and a team.
As a young boy, Spencer dreamt of being a marine biologist when he grew up. He was often found side by side with his brother Derek, and although he had a seriousness about him, he was quick to smile, and had a lightness in his laugh that was contagious. As a teenager Spencer enjoyed being with his family, friends, and his time on the Wrestling team at Duanesburg High. He had a special love for the animals in his life, and could often be found listening to rap music, and teaching his cousins cheat codes in GTA. (hey, who let them play that?!?!)
In early adulthood Spencer began working in security at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. He was quickly promoted as a maintenance technician due to his excellent work ethic, character, and personability. This was something he worked so hard to achieve and was a source of pride for Spencer and all that loved him.
Spencer leaves us too soon and we will miss him deeply. As we all gather to bear the weight of this loss together, we are struck by how it is the million tiny moments that weave throughout our lives, tying the days into weeks, into years. We are reminded of all the ways he touched our lives, and with our deep love we anchor his memory and take it forward with us.
A visitation will be held on Saturday April 6th from 1pm-4pm, with a service to take place at 4pm, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd Colonie NY.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to an animal shelter, The James A. Brennan Humane Society, as Spencer always had a special place in his heart for animals.
