ALBANY- Stanley C. Drozdal, 82, died on Monday February 7, 2005 at Teresian House surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Joseph and Antonina Wojtowicz Drozdal. He was Navy veteran, having served in both WWWI and the Korean War. Stan was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School, Watervliet Arsenal Machinist Apprentice Program and Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute. He earned his engineering degree after 12 years of part time study. His forty year career at the Watervliet Arsenal evolved through the Apprentice Program all the way to Chief of Value Analysis and Configuration Management.
Stan's greatest loves were his family and golf. At one time a scratch golfer, he was very proud to achieve a PGA certified hole in one. He was a longtime member of the Western Turnpike Golf Club, golfing weekly with his brother John. He was the President of Watervliet Arsenal Golf League for many years and was instrumental in the design of the Pitch and Putt Golf Course, where his efforts are recognized in an exhibit at the Watervliet Arsenal Museum. Stan was a longtime resident of Colonie and Albany. He was a communicant of St. Casimir's, Our Lady of Mercy and Christ the King Church.
Stan's family would like to extend their thanks to the Teresian House staff who not only took wonderful care of Stan's physical needs, but also cared for him and called him Stan the Man as a result of his habit of wearing Hugo cologne.
Stan is survived by his devoted wife, Victoria K. Drozdal, his adoring daughter, Denise D. Benoit of Saratoga., caring step daughters, Karen Mercado of Albany and Linda Karacoloff of Slingerlands; much loved son in law Craig Benoit, his beloved grandson, Alex Benoit; his godson, Frank Marshall of Delmar and his sister Rita Drozdal of Albany. Stan is also remembered by his son in law Doug Mercado and as Papa Stan to Monica, Peter, And Julie Mercado. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor Hann Drozdal and siblings, Cecelia Rogers, John, Michael and Catherine Drodzal, Mary Marshall, Helen Fritsch and Elizabeth Maruszczak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11:00 at Infant of Prague Chapel at Teresian House, 200 Washington Ave Extension , Albany. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at Christ the King Church, Westmere. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and at the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to the Teresian House Memorial Fund, 200 Washington Ave Ext., Albany NY 12203 in memory of Stanley C. Drozdal.
