Colonie- Stanley E. Skop, 96, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2007, at Julie Blair Nursing Home. Born in N. Tonawanda, NY he was the son of the late Anthony and Frances Skop. Stanley attended Our Lady of Czestochowa School in North Tonawanda. He was employed by NY Central Railroad retiring in 1972. Stanley was an avid bowler, bowling in the NYCAA league from 1941 to 1998 and other leagues until age 93. He also enjoyed camping with his wife and family. His favorite vacation destination was Wells Beach, Maine. He was a life long fan of the NY Mets. Stanley was a member of the Albany Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #49. Stanley is predeceased by his wife of 57 years Bessie E. Skop, his 6 brothers and sisters; Arline, John, Frank, Anthony, Jacob and Anna.
Stanley is the beloved father of Stanley M. Skop, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth, grandfather of Stephanie Barnes and her husband Charles, Stanley M. Skop, Jr. and Matthew E. Skop and the cherished great-grandfather of Anthony LaValley and Michaela Barnes all of Colonie. He also leaves behind his dear friends and neighbors Betty Capalbo, Doris Cook, Helen Albert, his roommate Edward Nato and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the entire third floor staff at the Julie Blair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care they provided to Stanley.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:15AM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-soouth of Central Ave.) thence to St. Francis DeSales Church, Exchange Street at 11:00 AM where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling Hours will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the West Albany Fire Company #1, 113 Sand Creek Road, Colonie, NY 12205, in memory of Stanley E. Skop.
