Stefan Swyst passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife Maria and son Roman on Sept 22, 2015 in Albany NY.
Born Feb 15, 1933 in Wysowa, Poland. He was 6 year old, when World War ll erupted and he and his family endured great hardship and suffering during war. After WWll ended, peace did not come to Wysowa. In 1947, his family and most of the residents of Wysowa were expatriated to "recovered" lands in western Poland where he settled in Zielona Gora province. Stefan married Maria Adamowicz on Sept 1, 1957 with whom he had 3 sons: Roman, Miron and Thomas. When Stefan was 40 years old, he emigrated with his family to USA in May 1973 to be reunited with his his parents and siblings. Stefan moved to Albany NY in 1974 where he accepted a job with Albany International Co. in Menands NY. He worked there till his disability retirement in 1989.
He is survived by his wife Maria (Adamowicz) Swyst, sons: Roman (Barbara), Miron and Thomas (Tracy). Grandchildren: Alexander, Isabella, Ruby and Benny. Sisters: Joanna Cislak, Nancy Dokla, Julia Papp, Donna DeMartino and brother Michael Swist.
He is pre-deceased by his sister Ewa and Melka, brother Jan, mother Tekla (Palyga) Swist and father Tomasz Swist. Special thanks to Dr Michael Scher, Dr Barbara Kapuscinska, Dr James Wymer, Dr Jorge Cerda, Dr Joseph Dudek, Dr Zachary Passaretti and Dr Vivian Smith. Special thanks to Teresian staff who took care of him in his last days of life.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, on Monday, September 28, 2015, from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa, 250 Old Maxwell Road, Latham, NY 12110, on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 11:30am.
