Stella Ernst, 91, wife of the late Karl Ernst Jr. of Albany, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 5, 1932 in Marystown, Newfoundland, she was predeceased by her parents Julia and Philip Smith.
Stella met the love of her life, Karl, while he was stationed with the United States Air Force in St. John's, Newfoundland. They married, and returned to Albany, where they began growing their family.
She retired from Eden Park Nursing Home after over 20 years of dedicated service. In her retirement, she enjoyed outings with her grandchildren to the dollar tree, Walmart, and for any ice cream she could get her hands on.
She leaves behind her loving children Frank (Patty) Ernst, Virginia (Paul) Russell, Mary (Lenny) Ricchiuti, Patricia (Jack) Dodge, son-in-law Dan Hart, and beloved sisters-in-law Theresa Smith and Virginia Fissette, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kriste (Joe) McNall, Jason (Catherine) Russell, Jessica Ernst, Tressa (Dan) Murphy, Sara Ricchiuti, Julie Hart, Amy Ricchiuti, and Shannah Westfall. She was also proud to have 13 great-grandchildren, and enjoyed the time she spent with her great-grand dogs.
In addition to her husband, Stella was predeceased by her sons Karl "Butch" Ernst III and John Ernst, as well as her sisters Phyllis Bowering, Mary Ellen Power, Patricia Smith and brothers Jack and William Smith, and uncle- Tom Flannigan.
The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful friendship of Nora, Loretta, and her neighbors at Holy Wisdom Apartments. As well as the companionship of Alyssa "Alicia" Terry, Rebecca Pelletier, and the Monaco Family.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, from 11am to 1pm with a service starting at 1pm. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery & Memorial Park.
