Stella Gallo Barkowski died peacefully Monday, May 16 at Ellis Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born in Schenectady, a life-long resident. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1945. Prior to her marriage, she worked at General Electric. She then enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Charles Barkowski; her five children, Dr. Nancy (Raymond O'Keefe) Barkowski of Schenectady, Charles (Alice) Barkowski of Rochester, John (Cindy) Barkowski of Rotterdam, Robert Barkowski of Schenectady, and Joseph (Michael McCann) Barkowski of Wichita, KS; brother Pasquale (Sylvia) Gallo of Vista, CA; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial mass will be held Friday at 9:00 am at St. Helen's Church, 1805 Union Street, Schenectady. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Private burial to be arranged.
The family prefers memorial donations to be made to Rotterdam Challengers Baseball League (baseball league for children and adults with disabilities), Attention: Ellen Brown, President; P.O. Box 102; Pattersonville, NY 12137; in her name.
