ALBANY- Stephen "Bobby" Simmons, 84, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018.
He was born in Kinston, NC, to Julia Jones, and Steven Simmons on March 23, 1934. At an early age he and his mother moved to Albany, NY, where he received his formal education. After graduating he served his country honorably in the United States Army. After his military service he went on to work at Niagara Mohawk from which he retired in the late 90's.
Bro Simmons was a member of Wilborn Temple Church, where he faithfully served and worked with the Usher Board, and was a past member of the trustee board for many years.
Bro Simmons was predeceased by his mother, Sister Julia Jones.
He will be missed by his wife, Sister Rose Simmons, his four sons, Roderick (Kim) Simmons, of New Jersey, Steven Simmons, of Florida, Anthony (Crystle) Simmons, of Schenectady, NY, and Quin Darnell, Of Virginia, his four daughters, Rosalyn (Donald) Wallace, of East Greenbush, Cynthia Scott, of Albany, NY, Tammy Mentis, of Schenectady, NY, and Barbara Simmons, of Rensselaer, NY. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several cousins, 3 sister-in-laws, 2 brother-in-laws, and many dear friends.
A private viewing was held for family Thursday, December 27, 2018.
A public Memorial service to held in near future.
