Steven Joseph Kotel

March 20, 1955 — July 29, 2023

Steve Kotel of 60 Petrified Gardens Rd, Saratoga Springs, NY experienced a cardiac episode at his residence and within 15 minutes was transported to Saratoga Springs Hospital by the wonderful City of Saratoga Springs EMT's and Emergency Squad.

Sadly, once at the Hospital Steve's heart gave out and there was nothing they could do to bring him back to us. God had other plans for Steve.

He was born in Lowville, NY, son of Joseph and Dorothy (Jones) Kotel on March 20, 1955. He grew up in Lowville and summered in Brantingham, NY at the family's camp. Steve graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School.

Steve met his wife Roberta (Thompson) Kotel, originally from Platsburgh NY on Feb 3rd, 2000 and their forever story was sparked from there. Steve became stepfather to Roberta's daughters Debbie Smith (estranged) Molalla, OR and Katherine Liberty of Peru, NY. He is "Papa" to Rethalynn Liberty of Peru, NY and "Grandpa" to Steven Burch of Molalla, OR.

Steve worked for Keebler as a merchandiser for several years until a motorcycle accident which left him with pins and plates in his leg and a gait in his walk. Steve later became a motorcoach operator in Florida for a few years and did cross country tours. When he met Roberta he had just started a position with Upstate Tours & Transit of Saratoga Springs, NY and he remained there until he retired earlier this year.

Steve was once a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Rock City Falls and Halfmoon fire departments several years ago.

Before the motorcycle crash Steve enjoyed bowling and though he tried to regain his admiration for the game his leg just wouldn't permit it.

Steve's pride and joy was his stepdaughter Katie, stepson- in-law Terry Liberty, granddaughter Rethalynn Liberty and grandson Steven Burch.

He was also "over the moon in love" with his many dogs over the years.

Also left to cherish his memory are his older sisters and brothers-in-law, Gloria and Gary Jock of Lyons Falls NY, Diane and John Bradish of Whitesboro, NY. his nieces and nephews Ryan (Kim) Jock, Renee (Neil) MacDermot, Jennifer (Mark) Enjem, Tim (Barbi) Bradish.

Steve was predeceased by his parents Dorothy (Jones) Phelps and Joseph Kotel, a sister Joanne Kotel, a niece Angela Blair, and Great Niece Hannah Stone.

At Steve's request there are no calling hours or services.

Steve asks that if you wish to you may donate to your local pet rescue.
