Subhadra "Sue" Balan passed away peacefully at her home on July 5th, 2022.
Sue immigrated to the US from India in the 1970s to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse. When she first arrived, she lived in Waco, Texas, and then spent several years in Queens, NY before settling in Albany, NY. She spent over 25 years working at the Stratton VA Medical Center with colleagues and patients that she adored.
Sue was known for her love of gardening, especially her roses, and her famous chicken curry. She enjoyed sharing her South Indian recipes with other Indian food lovers and nothing made her happier than hearing how their curries turned out. Sue also had a great love for her animals, she eventually got used to her daughter bringing them home "temporarily" which always meant forever.
She is survived by her daughters, Bindu and Sindu, along with her pets, who were like her grandchildren, Nyla, Elliot, Patrick, Ramona, Violet and Eloise. She is also survived by her adopted mother, Louis Lewis, of Morgan, Texas. Sue also leaves behind many friends who she considered family. Sue will be missed by many. She will forever be known as a mother, daughter, nurse but most importantly, a great friend.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday July 10th from 2-4pm at New Comer Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. A graveside service will take place Monday July 11th at 10am in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd in Colonie and all are welcome to pay their final respects.
Please consider wearing something colorful as this is not a time for darkness, but a time for light.
