Altamont - Susan K. (Thomson) Maynard passed away at her home on her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving morning, November 23, 2023, with her loving family by her side.
Born on January 10, 1967, the youngest child of Joseph D. Thomson and Carol Walther Thomson of Albany. Sue was raised and educated in Albany, graduating from St. Teresa's Avila School and Mercy High School.
As soon as Little League Baseball allowed girls to play, Sue was the first to sign up. Not only did she play, she was also famous for hitting one over the fence for a home run against the best pitcher in the league! While attending St. Teresa's and Mercy she excelled in many sports, especially basketball.
Prior to beginning her 30-year career with the State of New York Department of Motor Vehicles, Sue was employed at Tax and Finance where she met the love of her life, James Maynard whom she married on September 10, 1993. You would often find Sue and Jim camping at Rogers Rock with their friends, as well as many weekends swimming at the rock quarry in Greenwich. They shared their love for skiing at Jiminy Peak during the winter months. They built a beautiful life together, their greatest joy was when they welcomed their daughter Ryleigh on November 22, 2006. Sue most loved spending time with her family, and as a family, they loved having pool parties at their home, spending weekends in Brant Lake, going for long rides and attending concerts at SPAC.
Sue is survived by her beloved husband of 30 years, James P. Maynard and her daughter, Ryleigh C. Maynard, as well as her father, Joseph D. Thomson, her siblings, David J. (Amie) Thomson, Joseph J. Thomson, Lisa A. Thomson (Mark Klender), as well as many nieces and nephews, along with her constant companion, the family dog, Rosie. Sue was also preceded by her mother Carol Walther Thomson and her mother-in-law Joyce Maynard.
The family could always count on Susie's legendary apple pies or chocolate chip cookies at any of the family events. She had a beautiful soul and was loved by many. She will be deeply missed by friends, family and all who knew her. The world will be a lot less bright without her in it, but our memories will never dim.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Sue's family on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, at 343 New Karner Road, Colonie NY 12205. Funeral services on Friday, December 1 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, in Albany where her funeral mass will be celebrated.
