Susan Jean Murtagh

Susan J. Murtagh, 65, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Schenectady Center with her loving family by her side.

Born in Niskayuna on January 19, 1953, Susan was the daughter of Lawrence Murtagh and the late Doris (Collins) Murtagh. She was the devoted life partner to the late Larry K. Washington, together 31 years until his passing in 2009.

Susan was a graduate of Mohonasen High School, Class of 1971. She was a waitress in several local establishments for 42 years. Lastly, Susan was a food service tech. at Bellevue Maternity Hospital, where she retired from in 2010. Susan was a member of Bellevue Reformed Church. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking, camping, reading and crafting. A kind soul, Susan loved taking care of others.


Loving mother of Danielle Murtagh and Jamile Murtagh, dearest sister of Larry (Margaret) Murtagh, Jeffrey (Rita) Murtagh, Mark (Nancy) Murtagh, Michele (Marshall) Slowey-Ogert, Michael (Kathy) Murtagh, Laurie (Bill) Kownack, Daniel Murtagh and Lisa Yank. Cherished grandmother of ReJeana and Michael Murtagh, Makaylah Thomas, Jada Doedema, Alivia and Avery Murtagh.
Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Friday, October 19th at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, where a funeral service will commence at 12 p.m. from the funeral home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie.
