Susan M. Tavernia, beloved mother of two sons, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024 after a 12-year journey with Dementia, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
Born in Malone, NY July 12, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Gladys Reome Tatro. She graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone, NY.
Susan worked for more than 25 years in the cafeterias of many of the schools in the Malone Central School District. She loved connecting with the children and always gave a little “extra” to the ones who needed it most. Additionally, she took her love for poodles and turned it into a successful dog grooming business which kept her very busy for more than 20 years.
Susan was a devout Catholic. She was very proud to have made a pilgrimage to Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina with her sisters and several trips to Mary Queen of Our Hearts in Chertsey, Quebec.
As a young woman and mother, she enjoyed playing women’s softball which became a family event. Susan placed strong value on family and enjoyed Wednesday evenings with her sisters and sisters-in-law playing games, and talking about life. In her free time she enjoyed gardening and maintaining her lawn which she always meticulously kept.
Survivors include: her two sons Dean (Dan LeMay) of Colonie, NY and Kenn (Adrien Gleason) of San Jose, California; two brothers, one sister and their spouses: Gary and Nancy Tatro of Chateaugay Lake, NY., Dickey and Mary Tatro and Jean and William Martin, Jr., all of Malone, NY. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws: Roni and Sandra Tatro both of Malone, NY as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers: John, Donald Jr, Norman, Rickey, and James Tatro, and two sisters and brother-in-laws: Sally and Douglas Dear and Linda and Dennis Bigness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Wednesday November 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. All are invited to attend her funeral services at the funeral home following at 11:00 a.m.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or to The Teresian House in Albany NY.
