Albany- Susan Ione Johnson Walker, 51, of Albany, was called home to be with the Lord suddenly on the evening of Sunday, March 18, 2007.
Susan Ione Johnson Walker was the second of three children born to Edward and Juanita Johnson on September 22, 1955 in Albany, New York. Susie, as she was fondly called, began her formal education at the Paige Elementary School and subsequently graduated from Notre Dame High School. Susan maintained a hunger for formal education and as a result, she attended and graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with an AAS in Human Services. She would later acquire her certification as a nail technician from the Educational Occupational Center and subsequently complete additional coursework at Maria College.
At an early age, Susan accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the fellowship of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church (MSMBC) and was baptized in the early 1960's under the pastorate of the late Reverend Dr. Moses Scipio Hunter. At Morning Star, Susan participated in all facets of youth ministries to include the Junior and Youth Choirs, Youth Ushers and Sunday School. In later years, Susan participated in the service ministry of the MSMBC Food Pantry, Saturday Surprise Club, she prepared the weekly worship service bulletins and was a member of the United Choir and Sunday School where she served as the devotional leader for several years.
Celebrating her life are her beloved and devoted husband Wayman, Jr., her beloved daughters Kerstin Ione Browder, Karis Elise Browder, Domenica Carpenter and step-children, Jenee (Kevin) Dallaird and Wayman Walker, III, her loving parents, Edward C. and Juanita Diggs Johnson, her sister, Valarie M. Johnson, her grandchildren, Adain and Alexis Dallaird, her aunts, Dorothy Lane and Thelma Ione (Edward) Carter, her uncle, Dea. Ralph Redmon, mother-in-law, Flossie Walker, and a host of other relatives and friends. Susan was predeceased by her brother Ralph D. Johnson and her maternal grandmother, Mother Elizabeth Diggs.
Funeral services in celebration of Susan's life will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Quail & Spring Street, Albany. Calling hours will be Saturday from 9am to 12 noon at the Church.
