Suzanne H. Meher

September 12, 1948 — May 16, 2016

Colonie - Suzanne Mary Hughes Meher passed away at her home, as she wished, surrounded by her loving family on May 16, 2016. She was 67 years old. The only daughter of the late Joseph A., Sr., and Mary (Brennan) Hughes, Suzanne was born on September 12, 1948, in Albany, NY. Suzanne graduated from Albany High School in 1967 and Austin Beauty School in 1968. She was married for 48 years to her high school sweetheart, Daniel W. Meher, on November 23, 1968, at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Suzanne is survived by her husband of 47 years, Daniel W. Meher. Suzanne will live on in her children, Shawn W. Meher; Erin M. (Lee) Davison; and Megan M. (Michael) Battibulli. She is also survived by the eight joys of her life, her grandchildren, whom she adored and spoiled: Sean Meher, Daniel Meher, Liam Davison, Connor Davison, Megan Battibulli, Kaitlyn Battibuli, Joseph Battibulli, and Abbaigael Battibulli. She was their "Nana Honey." Suzanne was sister to Joseph A. (Ann) Hughes, FL; James B. Hughes; and Daniel P. Hughes (Linda Joyce). She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nephews, and great nieces.
Suzanne was very active in her church, Blessed Sacrament. She was a devoted volunteer with the Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry, helping with food deliveries and distribution. She was an integral part of the annual Christmas project. There was no task she would not undertake. Suzanne was a kind presence who will be missed.
When her children were old enough to be in school, Suzanne went to work in the Albany City School District. She began as a secretary at Albany High School, then, for many years, as a teacher's aide at the Albany School of Humanities (ASH) and briefly at Sheridan Preparatory Academy. Her love of children drew her out of retirement, as she volunteered in the first-grade classroom at ASH.
The times she cherished most were with her grandchildren, either in her pool, on her lap, or one at a time in her convertible. She loved traveling, gardening, golfing, shopping, and quilting. She was a keen card player, quick witted, and loved to laugh with close friends.
Memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., on Friday, May 20, 2016, at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. All are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian burial that will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Suzanne's name to the Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry.
