Albany – Mother Sylvia L. Hill, 101 transitioned into eternal life peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center.
Mother Hill was born in Sinai (Halifax County) Virginia to the late Mason and Beatrice Hill on November 11, 1915.
Mother Hill relocated to Albany in 1938, she was employed by Montgomery Ward Department Store prior to her career at the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance for 22 years before retiring in 1981.
In the early 1940's Mother Hill became a committed servant of the Lord when she united with the Wilborn Temple Church of God in Christ Church, where she worked and served tirelessly for over 70 years until January 2017 when she was no longer able to attend. Her dedication to her Church was an unmatched example of her love of God. All who knew Mother Hill knew just how much she loved her church.
Mother Hill leaves to cherish her memory: Nephew, Stanley David (Ruth) Hill, Schenectady, NY and Niece, Carol (Rev. Dr. Kenneth) Cox of Drexel Hill, PA. 4 great nephews, 3 great nieces and 7 great, great nieces and nephews. A host of other relatives, The Wilborn Temple COGIC family and many, many friends.
Mother Hill was also predeceased by her 3 brothers, Leavern, Willie and Richard Hill and niece Elaine Hill-Perry.
The Celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 with calling hours from 4:00pm-6:00pm with a service to immediately follow at the Wilborn Temple COGIC, 121 Jay Street, Albany, NY 12210. Burial will be at Memory Garden Cemetary, Colonie, NY on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 10:00am.
