Sylvia K. Clark

August 31, 1921 — January 27, 2016

Sylvia K. Clark, 94, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Teresian House with her loving family by her side. Born in Morrisonville, NY she was the youngest of 13 children of the late Levi and Delphine Bouyea Sorrell, and the devoted wife of the late Robert J. Clark.

She grew up on a farm learning to make everything from scratch including her famous strawberry jam, bread pudding and New England boiled dinner. She even claims to know how to make whisky in a still!
The family moved to Massena, New York and raised four children. She has also been blessed with seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren!
Sylvia has had several interesting jobs in her lifetime. She started as a waitress/cook/baker in a restaurant before her marriage. During WWII, she worked in a razor blade factory. As her children grew, she honed her sewing skills working in a moccasin factory, got free comic books from her job as a clerk at the 5&10, and rocked a hairnet as a school cafeteria worker in both Massena and Owego, NY until she retired in the early 1980's. It was there, in her final job, that she perfected the mass produced chocolate chip cookie as the official baker for the school district. Any of her grand and great grandchildren will attest to the fact that Sylvia's cookies were the best ever.
Sylvia loved to play cards and was a whiz at bingo. She was so lucky at both that her playing partners often hinted that she was a shark! She participated in the "Home Bureau" completing many sewing, crocheting, and craft projects over the years. Footstools made from juice cans, Santa's sleigh made from a turkey breast and snow people made from pillow stuffing are some highlights. She made Halloween costumes for her own children and costumes for many plays and pageants. Her "hippie" vests and ponchos were a hit with her daughters!
Sylvia will be forever missed by her daughters: Linda (Jim) DeCator and Carolyn (Dan) Glisson; her son-in-law Tom Condon; her grandchildren; Shelley (Nick) Bell, David Decator, Bethanny (Brent) McCarthy, Heather (Rob) Clark-Walts, Patrick (Erica) Glisson, Jeremy (Hilary) Clark and Jonathan Glisson; and her great grandchildren; Eric & Erin McCarthy, Camden & Kennidy DeCator; Ali, Kai, & Juju Clark-Walts, Gia, Lucia, Aniella & Jeremy Clark and Blake Glisson.

In addition to her husband and parents, Sylvia is predeceased by her son Curtis Clark and her daughter Cheryl (Tom) Condon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately with family. The interment will be held at the Tioga Cemetery, in Owego, NY at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sylvia's name to the Teresian House, 200 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY 12203.
