ALBANY, NY – Sylvia M. Yorio, 87, of Albany, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland. She was born in Corning, NY on June 29, 1922 to the late Carl and Carmella Bonomo. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Yorio worked as a secretary and nurse's aide. After raising her children, she worked in retail sales before retiring. She was a talented quilter and oil painter. Sylvia was a communicant of Christ the King Church and a member of the Westmere Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, Guilderland Elks Ladies Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Anthony Yorio. Sylvia is the devoted mother of Robert J. Yorio and his wife, Joanne and Judith M. Yorio. She is the loving sister of Louis, Edward, Ann, Lucille and the late Anthony, James, Arthur and Robert. Sylvia is the cherished grandmother of Philip, Michael and Monica Yorio. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). The parish family of Christ the King will gather at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday at the Philips Funeral Home in Corning, NY with a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at St. Vincent's Church in Corning. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Corning, NY.
