SLINGERLANDS-Sylvia Maher, 93, passed away at her residence at the Eddy Village Green at Beverwyck with family by her side.
A longtime resident of Colonie, Sylvia's purpose in life was her family. She was happiest when she was spending time with her children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
Born in Ludlow, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Portuguese immigrants, Luiz J. Costa and Maria Julia dos Santos. She met and married Frank B. Maher, Sr and embarked on a journey of raising a family, working hard, and maintaining a household. She worked as a proof reader for a number of area printers, primarily for the Williams Press. She was still working as a proof reader at the age of 90.
Sylvia was pre-deceased by her husband of 56 years, Frank, Sr, as well as her five brothers. She is survived by her children Frank B. Maher, Jr (Rose), Paul Maher (Karen), Melissa Myers (George), and Alan Maher (Lisa), grandchildren, Jennifer Carney (Dave), Andrea Mossman (Dave), Frank V. Maher (Samantha), Emily Maher Cmaylo (Jonathan), Adam Maher (Rachael), Nicole Maher, and Brendan Maher, and great grandchildren Kelsey Carney, Matthew Maher, Charlotte Mossman, Christian Mossman, Nina Cmaylo, and Isaac Cmaylo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express its thanks and appreciation to the staff at Eddy Village Green for their compassionate care in the final years of Sylvia's life.
Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family.
