On August 29, 2007, the Angel of the Lord came to receive Minister Tasheem K. Fortner, who passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer.
Tasheem born December 15, 1987 to William Fortner and Loretta Robinson, was native of Albany. The third son of 9 children, Tasheem, also known as Ty
or Min, loved to play sports basketball being his ultimate love. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, seeing new things, enjoyed new adventures, loved amusement
parks, festivals and fried dough. Ty had to overcome tremendous obstacles and hardships in his life growing up in foster care at St. Catherine's in Albany and spending a large part of his youth at Parsons Child and Family Center.
Even though, life was not easy for Ty he had a determination and a tenacity to live and to succeed.
Attending Neil Hellman day treatment programs, he successfully transitioned to public school where he attended Albany High School as a
Junior, played on the basketball team and later transferred to Troy HS where he graduated with his high school diploma in 2006. While attending Troy High School, he also obtained a fulltime job with Darden Restaurants where he worked
as a dishwasher at the Olive Garden on Wolf Road. Working full time and going to school full time, Ty quickly became an integral part of the Olive Garden family, having received a promotion after his probationary period, he was eager to learn other duties of his job. Having successfully graduated from high school, obtaining his first full time job in the position of dishwasher that he had always wanted, learning how to drive and finally being adopted, he had fulfilled all of his dreams.
If there were any final words that Ty would say, they would be, "Everything is going to be alright", "Keep your head up", and "Get your life together and keep praying to God, He will answer your prayers".
He leaves to reflect on his life an adoptive father, Reverend Terrence Collington, biological father William Fortner, Mother Loretta Williams and God
Mother Hazel Thompson – Tune. 3 brothers: Lord-El, El-Jabar Akiem and Terel; 3 Sisters: Ashley, Kiesha, Kenya and Diamond; 1 Nephew, named after him, Ty-shawn Harvey; 5 Uncles: Richard, James, Stanley, Edward and Wayne Thomas. 4 Aunts: Donna Sheffield (Cake), Shirley Hawkins (County), Bessie Childs, Surraine Thomas, Alkeisha Farley and Gladys Robinson; his Grandfather Walalce Welch and a host of cousins, friends and loved ones. He will truly be missed by all.

Interment will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Family Focus Adoption Services, 54-40 Little Neck Parkway, Suite 4, Little Neck, NY 11362.
