Theodore J. Lubiniecki

July 9, 1920 — December 29, 2013

COLONIE - Theodore J. Lubiniecki (Ted Lubin), 93, passed peacefully during his sleep Sunday morning, December 29, 2013 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Facility, after a short illness.

Born July 9, 1920 in Amsterdam, NY, Ted was the son of Polish Immigrant parents Jan and Kornella Lubiniecki. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and graduated 1939 from Wilber Lynch High School. In 1941 he moved to Albany, along with his brother and sister, and soon joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 where he served aboard the USS DD Dallas-199. His unit received 2 presidential citations during his service.

Ted attended Albany Business College and was employed as an Apprentice Machinist at General Electric in Schenectady. He was a Life Member at the Colonie V.F.W. Robert Weininger Post 8692.

He worked for 40 years alongside and for his brother Lou at the Colonie Food Market and often "oversaw" operations at his nephew's L-Ken's Drive In Restaurant, where he was sure to show up Fridays for his fish fry and coleslaw.
Ted was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church and was a strong fixture in the Colonie community. He was well known for his witty banter, comedic relief, and love of animals. He enjoyed tinkering about his home, growing vegetables in his garden, spending time at the track, bowling at Redwood Lanes on the 'Lake Electronics' team, and golfing.

He leaves behind a legacy of memories from his past adventures which include his missions with the Navy and nights of comedy in Florida, Las Vegas, and the nearby Hawaii Klub.

Though Ted was often gruff, he had a heart of gold and will be missed, as will his constant jest and love for life.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Ludwick and his wife Elaine Lubiniecki, his sister Sadie Rapp, and his nephews Kenneth and John (Jack) Lubiniecki.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Kimberly, Phyllis and Esme Lubiniecki, Sharon Casterlin, Carrie and Sam Lindemann, Benjamin, Jamie and Piper Casterlin, and Caitlin and Kierstin Burns.

The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the staff and friends at Daughters of Sarah for their compassionate, dedicated and loving care of Uncle Teddy.
