Theodore "Ted" Weyhe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the age of 100 at his home. Ted was the devoted husband to his wife Serafina for 69 years until her passing in 2017. He was a loving father to son, Paul Weyhe, Christine (Weyhe) Bornt and Doreen, grandfather to Jackie Bornt, Heather (Weyhe) Jewell and Jason Weyhe and great grandfather to Arabelle Weyhe, Aubrielle Weyhe and Remington Jewell the newest member of the family. Ted was blessed with many close friends and caring neighbors. We are most thankful for his continued friendship with Carl Erickson throughout the years.
Ted was born 12/24/1922 in Kingston, New York. Young life found Ted as a skilled taxidermist in a local studio and later as a cabinetmaker in a fine woodworking shop. Upon graduating from Kingston High School, he entered the United States Army to service heavy bombers. Answering the need for crew members, Ted became a ball turret gunner on a B24 serving in the Pacific during WWII.
His natural artistic background led him into the old NY State Museum as a Preparator, then Exhibit Designer. He advanced to Senior Designer in the new Museum specializing in dioramas that include the Elk, Log Jam, Indian and Mastodon exhibit to name a few. He worked as a designer for 42 years until his retirement in 1983.
Home life included camping, fishing and hiking in the Adirondacks and family vacations to Cape Cod. Tennis and creative woodworking were the hobbies of Ted's retired life. He enjoyed riding his recumbent bike, cooking and was an avid reader. He was well known for his homemade raviolis and sauerbraten. If you were to ask Ted the secret to his longevity he would answer "keep your mind/body active and drink a glass of wine each day".
We would like to thank the doctors and nurses that took such great care of Ted over the years. A special thanks to Dr. Michael Bernstein and the entire team at Capital Cardiology, Dr. Ronnie Luyun and all the members at St. Peters Medical Oncology/Hematology, to Dr. David Abraham and all members of OrthoNY for their care, to the staff at Landmark Health and lastly to the devoted care given to our father from the team at Community Care Hospice. We are forever grateful.
Ted will be remembered as a man who made friends wherever he went, had a quick witted sense of humor, a strong attachment to nature and the outdoors and lived his life to its fullest.
A celebration to honor Ted will be held at a future date for family and friends.
