Theresa A. Attanasio, a long time Central Islip Long Island resident passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, NY on Thursday, February 29th at the age of 93.
She was the beloved wife of the late Angelo Andrea Attanasio and mother to the late James F. Attanasio (Kathleen).
Theresa is survived by her children Patrick Attanasio (Brietta)of Mariaville, NY, Theresa Luyckx of Mays Landing, NJ, and Andrew Attanasio (Margarete) of Norfolk, CT. She was a cherished grandmother to Emily, Cassie, Nikki, Andrew and James, and was blessed with four great grandchildren; Zoey, Cameron, Jay and Elle.
Theresa (Terry) was born in New Rochelle, NY and was raised in Valley Stream, NY. She graduated High School from Dominican Commercial Business School in Jamaica Queens. Theresa married in 1953 and started a family in Valley Stream eventually moving to Central Islip Long Island in 1969.
She began her career as a school monitor in 1970 for the Central Islip School district where she worked for 25 years.
Theresa was a member of the Columbiettes and the Senior Citizen Group in Central Islip for many years.
After retiring she and her husband liked to travel in their camper and take trips with their Senior Citizen group, family and friends.
Theresa loved music and inspired her children at a young age to become musicians by introducing them to all types of musical genres by continuously playing record albums on her stereo.
Her dry, witty sense of humor and mischievous smile will be remembered by all who have met her.
A special thanks to the angels that work at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, NY who took wonderful care of our mom and made the Guadalupe unit a home for her for over four and a half years. We also want to thank the Hospice staff who assisted Theresa during the last month of her life.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Madeleine-Sophie Church, Carmen Road, Schenectady at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 9th.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to go to either the
Dementia Society or to
Theresa's son Patrick's Fundraiser for the
2024 Annual Ride against Dementia.
