It is with extreme sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of Theresa A. Churan, 69, of Albany, on February 7, 2021 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Hicksville NY, she was the daughter of James and Eileen (O'Leary) Churan and grew up in Loudonville, NY. Terry had a loving childhood and was the only family member that could control Jinx, our crazy family cat. Terry proudly graduated from Shaker High School in 1969.
Terry did not let her challenges stand in her way. Terry loved to travel and took many bus trips to her favorite places such as Mystic Seaport, the New England Aquarium and to Rochester to visit her sister Maureen. She also took cruises to Nova Scotia and Bermuda, flew to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and visited Disney World with her family. Terry loved to shop for clothes and jewelry (she wore a ring on every finger!), always the fashionista. She was an avid sports fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She loved animals and had a large collection of horse statues growing up. She enjoyed many visits with Hannah, her sister Susan's dog, when they would come to visit her and her housemates. She enjoyed visiting restaurants, her favorites being Red Lobster and The Cheesecake Factory. She also enjoyed watching the Food Network, Emeril, and collecting cookbooks. Terry loved to dance and listen to music, especially the Beatles and Elvis. She lived a full life doing what she loved. Being the oldest of five children, Terry taught us compassion, patience, empathy, and that being who you are can be your greatest strength.
Terry was preceded in death by her parents James and Eileen. She is survived by her loving siblings Stephen Churan, Maureen (Mark) Churan-King, Susan (John) Kaczynski, and Mark (Jessica) Churan and many nieces and nephews.
Terry's family gratefully appreciates the services the Center for Disability Services provided her for most of her life. We especially appreciate the loving care from her extended family at Reagan House where she resided, taking her on many outings, shopping, and visiting restaurants. We know Terry cherished their friendship, and we are sure she kept them busy!
A visitation will be held Monday February 15th, from 12pm-1pm, with a service at 1pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie NY.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Terry's memory to The Center for Disability Services, 314 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 or at www.cfdsny.org.
