Thomas E. Dobson, 85, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Tom was born on June 2, 1939, the son of the late John F. and Mary Dobson (Dunnigan).
Tom served with the U.S. Air Force, with whom he would eventually retire after 22 years as Master Sergeant. He was deployed for two tours during the Vietnam War, serving with Unit 903 Ames Aeromedical Evacuation Unit. Tom continued his federal service with the Albany Stratton V.A. as a Registered Nurse, until his retirement.
He enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants- and would attend their spring/summer training camps, traveling, history, and of course, the Saratoga Racetrack. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his first wife, Luella Dobson, and his siblings, Jim Dobson, Mary Toucheny and Jack Dobson.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nora Carioto; children, Pam Carian, Patrick Dobson (Marge), Teresa Dobson, Katherine Bortoff, Mary Moreta (Miguel), Joseph Carioto (George) and Anthony Carioto (Jennifer); grandchildren, Charlotte, Jackie, Jonathan, Lucas, Julie, Kayla, Isabella, Giuliana, Vincent, Anthony and Joseph; sister-in-law, Lorraine Dobson; and several nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road, Watervliet. A service will immediately follow at 12 p.m. Burial with Military Honors to follow the service at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Albany Stratton V.A. for their superior care-giving and support, including: Dr. Fellegi, Amanda Picard R.N., and the nursing staff on Ward 8B.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Tom’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
