Thomas E. Davis

February 6, 1927 — July 23, 2013

ALBANY - Thomas E. Davis, 86, at long last, he joins the love of his life, Flossie (Irene), and beloved son, Tommy, in eternal joy on July 23, 2013.

Born in Albany on February 6, 1927, Tom was the son of Anna Mullen and Thomas Davies and was raised lovingly by his mother and step-father, Edward Teator.

Tom enlisted in the Navy during WWII and while in London, met his Irish colleen, Irene Marie Quinn, and married her there. During 62 years of marriage, they raised 7 children and were blessed with 20 grand-children and 12 great grand-children with 2 wee ones expected this year.

Tom served his community heroically as an Albany police officer for 4 years and then as a fire-fighter and Lieutenant in the Albany Fire Department for 27 years. Tom also organized the first North Albany Little League and served as President for many years. He loved his years as an umpire for local high school, college, and pub leagues, as well as the Albany Twilight League at Bleecker Stadium, and was welcomed by both teams for his fair, unbiased calls. He fondly recalled his best moments when even the losing players came up to shake his hand following a game, extolling "Good calls, Ump!" Tom was also a lifetime member of the Albany Elks, another happy remembrance of times gone by.

With their family raised, Tom and Irene took a long vacation to Florida, which lasted 12 years, returning to Albany in 2004.

For the past few years, Tom lived happily at Ingersoll Place Assisted Living and made many friends. He considered the staff a loving part of his extended family and his affection was reciprocated. As many of the Ingersoll community knows, Tom had a fine singing voice and could croon like Bing Crosby. As you read this, he is regaling Mommy and Tommy and the heavens above with his heart-warming rendition of "It Had to be You."

His loss is deeply grieved by his children: Sheila Morroni (John) of Clifton Park, Maureen Palmiotto (Frank) of Rotterdam, Timothy Davis (Teresita) of Guilderland, Sean Davis of Freehold, Kelly Hartmann (John) of Latham, and Shannon Gillson (Douglas) of Guilderland and all his loving family. (Tommy, Jr. was tragically lost in a car accident in 1969 at age 22).

Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Greenbush and is being arranged by New Comer Cannon Funeral Home. Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
