Thomas F. Mahar (Tom), 73, of Guilderland and formerly of Colonie, Plattsburgh, and
Amsterdam, NY died after a long illness on August 16th, 2007, surrounded by his family.

The son of the late Florence Mahar (Dunn) and William Joseph Mahar of Rennselaer, NY Tom is preceded by his brother William Joseph Mahar.

Tom was born in Rennselaer and as a child moved to Albany, where he attended Saint Joseph's School and was an altar boy at Saint Joseph's Church. He attended Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute for engineering and began his long career working for the city of Albany Department of Public Works. Tom later served in the US Army from 1959-1961. He then began work at the Watervliet Arsenal, where worked a luminous three+ decades and retired as the Chief Metallurgist in 1989. He received numerous awards for his contribution to national defense, including for work on the M1 Abrams Tank, and is listed in the Watervliet Arsenal Hall of Fame.

Tom is fondly remembered for his love for and dedication to his family and could often be found displaying his culinary skills by feeding the many family and friends who visited. A lover of outdoors, Tom thoroughly enjoyed cultivating his fruit trees and lawns as well as hunting. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, June Mahar of Albany, and his daughters, Elizabeth (Kelly) Regina of Altamont, Roxanne Mahar Marsh of Ballston Spa, and Tonya Mahar of Schenectady. He will also be missed by his stepchildren, Jill Wilson of Amsterdam and Brian Jerry of Slingerlands as well as grandchildren and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 10:30 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road, Colonie Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) then to St. Paul the Apostle Church Schenectady at 11:15 AM where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at St. Henry's Cemetery in Averill Park. Memorial donations may be made in Thomas F.
