Albany – Thomas G. McWatters, 61, entered into eternal rest on Thursday July 22, 2010.
Thomas was born Albany, a son of the late Jean and John McWatters and was a lifelong resident. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1966 to 1969, serving some of that time in Vietnam. Thomas was an Albany Police Officer for more than thirty years earning numerous decorations over the years. Tom was also known as "Officer McNasty" by residents of the Lark Street area. He was a member of the Albany Elks and the North Albany American Legion. Thomas loved spending time at the Great Sacandaga Lake, especially in the summer and greatly loved spending spring break, camping with his boys.
Tom's family would like to thank and acknowledge the Albany Police Department for all of their kindness and friendship during this difficult time.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Charlotte "Sherry" McWatters, three sons John (Rachel Bellard), Thomas (Colleen O'Connor), Matthew (Caitlin), grandson Seamus, brother Gerald (Patricia) McWatters, sisters Linda (Charles) Lawlor and Mary Jo (Robert) Reinhart and many close friends and several dear nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 8:00am from New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie then to Historic Church of St. Mary on Capitol Hill, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00am. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or the Albany Police Athletic League.
