COLONIE – Thomas J. Kelly, Sr., 81, of Colonie, passed away Saturday August 4, 2007 at Albany Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Albany on February 15, 1926 and was the son of the late John and Henrietta Kelly.
Tom served in the US Navy , as a Gunners mate, 3rd class during the Normandy Invasion. He was employed with the NY Railroad shops in West Albany and as a mechanic with CDTA in Albany for many years. Tom was a 52 year volunteer member of West Albany Fire Dept #1. He served as the Financial Secretary of the Department and was the Fireman of the Year in 1977 and recipient of the President's Award for Dedicated Service and Colonie Elks Outstanding Fireman honors.
Tom was predeceased in 2001 by his wife, Rita A. Kelly. He is the father of Thomas J. Kelly Jr. of West Albany; Brother of John F. Kelly Jr of Colonie, Edward Kelly of Glens Falls and the late James Kelly and Agnes Glass.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 8:15 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) then to Blessed Sacrament Church at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
