ALBANY - Thomas M. Smith, Sr, 77, of Lake Alfred, FL formerly of Albany, NY entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 23, 2016 after a brief illness.
Tom was born and raised in Albany, NY, graduated from Vincentian Institute in 1956 after which he entered into military service with the Marines and served his country from 1956 to 1960. He married in 1963 and was devoted to his wife and two children. He worked for Banker's Trust/1st American Bank retiring in the mid 1990's. He kept busy after retiring with jobs at Saratoga Race Track and NYS Department of Taxation and Finance until his dream move to Lake Alfred, FL in 2001. Tom loved his family gatherings and cherished every moment with his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, golf, and reading mystery novels.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and George Smith, sister, Anneterese DiJulio, brother, Richard Smith, and his grandson, Cole Thomas Smith.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, O'Rhea A. Smith, and his two children, Thomas M. Smith Jr (Tracy) and Kellie A. Russo (Christopher). Papa will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Peri and Lane Smith and Brianna, Nicholas, and Jack Russo. He is also survived by his brother, Francis Smith (Pat), sister, MaryPat Smith (Mike), sister-in-law, Marian Smith (Richard), sister-in-law, Mary Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Friday, February 5, 2016, at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be prior to the service for 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Entombment will follow the service at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
