COLONIE – Thomas "Tom" G. McKeown, 84, a Colonie resident since 1958, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born on October 12, 1926 in Avon, NY and was the son of the late John and Florence Mabel (Greer) McKeown. He attended Lima High School and proudly served in the US Army during WWII from 1945 to 1947.
Tom was a supervisor for Albany International Corp. in Menands for many years, before retiring in 1983. He was able to enjoy a nice long retirement, traveling with his wife, spending time with his family, friends and his beloved dogs, Panda and Allie. He was a 34 year member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192.
Tom took great delight walking everyday with his dogs and his outreach included being a friendly neighbor, offering a helping hand or just being there for his neighbors. He touched many lives that came in contact with him. Tom and his visitors had the strength and courage to be there for one another during his brief illness, knowing, that would be the last time they would see each other.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nellie M. (Owcarz) McKeown; his loving children, Thomas S. (Cora) McKeown, Patricia A. "Pam" (Phillip) Nous, and Dennis V. (Christine) McKeown; his cherished grandchildren, Thomas R. McKeown, Kelly McKeown-Moffat, Kurt T. Nous, Alexander C., Zachary J., Jameson F., and Samuel T. McKeown; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandsons, Jeremy J. McKeown and Adam L. Nous; his sister, Mary A. Pacyliak and his brother, John A. McKeown.
