TROY – Thomas Michael Fitch, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at home, with his loving wife at his side.
Tom was born on July 6, 1943 in Mechanicville and was the son of the late Charles David and Elizabeth Margaret (Dwyer) Fitch. He proudly served in the US Army from 1962 to 1964, attaining the rank of SP4/Military Policeman. He was a police officer with the N.Y.S. Capital Police for over 19 years, before retiring in 1991 due to illness. He was a member of Council 82.
Tom was an avid bowler - having bowled a perfect game and appearing on TV Tournament Time in the 70's, an avid NY Yankees fan, enjoyed golfing and going to Racino in his retired years, but most especially being with family.
Tom is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Mary E. (Heffern) Fitch; his loving children, Thomas M. Fitch Jr., MaryBeth (Joe) Melber, Arthur C. (Alan Danforth) Fitch, William G. (Shelly) Fitch, John J. (Dar) Fitch Sr., Michael C. (Kerry) Fitch, Elizabeth A. (Chris) Whalen, Jennifer A. (Ed King) Kingsley , Meghan A. (Eric) Manny, Stephen M. (Lisa Zeoli) Fitch and Jude V. (TJ Castracane) Fitch; his cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Kaitlin and Zachary Fitch, Joseph (Melany Bull) and Jordan (Kari O'Holloran) Carnibucci, Ashley (TJ Yando), Jessica and John Jr. Fitch and Katherine Kirkley Fitch, Cassandra and Michael Jr. Fitch, Christopher Whalen Jr., Samantha and Michael Jr. Kingsley, Eric Jr., Brian and Kyle Manny, and Evan Castracane; his cherished great grandson, Brody Yando; his son-in-law, Michael Kingsley; his favorite cousin, Alberta (Dick) Nowhitney and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Helen, Pearl, John, Julia, Charles, Oliver, Dorothy, Herbert, Robert, Albert and Marie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Shrine Church, Troy. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
