Thomas M. Newman "Tom", 76, previous resident of The Avenue Nursing Home, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday October 10, 2007 at Ellis Hospital.
Born on June 28, 1931 in Albany, to the late Michael and Carrie Newman. He attended and graduated from Albany High School and continued his education at Siena College where he received his Bachelors of Science in Economics. He then joined the U S Army serving for one term in Korea and then returned to civilian life. The majority of his employment was with the New York State Department of Labor where he retired as a Labor Services Representative (LSR) in 1992.
Thomas had a great love and devotion to his friends and family. He was known to put their needs before his own. Tom was also a praying man and even in his pain he would bless the Lord and acknowledge the Lord's sovereignty. He loved his collection of Lionel trains. He also loved to indulge in good Syrian cooking.
Tom is survived by his adopted daughter; Gloria Hessell of Rotterdam and her son Carrington, his nephew Michael and his wife Ebtisam Bittar and their children; Michael, Mary and George all of Houston, Texas and a host of family and friends. He is predeceased by his brother Samuel J. Newman. Tom was also a great friend to the Monks of New Skete.
