Latham- Thomas Patrick Phelan, 62, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on December 29, 1960, son of the late Arthur and Loretta Phelan. Thomas was the devoted husband to Pamela (Speanburg) Phelan. They were married 23 years.
Thomas was a life long resident of Latham; from attending Elementary School at St. Ambrose to graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1979. He was a jack of all trades working many jobs throughout his life. Thomas worked for F & R Safety, American Airlines, bartending for various places such as; the Albany Hilton, Sneaky Pete's, and Spiaks Restaurant. He also worked as a dispatcher for the Colonie Police Department until his employment at the Town of Colonie Sign Shop as a sign fabricator until his retirement.
Thomas was a proud lifetime member of the Latham Fire Department. He was an avid skier and belonged to numerous Ski Clubs. Thomas was also a die-hard New York Yankee and Buffalo Bills Fan.
Thomas spent many years traveling around while camping until settling in as a seasonal camper at Deer Run Campground. He loved to travel, visiting Ireland, going on multi country European Tours, Mediterranean Cruises, as well as many Caribbean Cruises which he spent with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by his brother, Arthur (Barbara) Phelan; sister, Eileen (Robert) Herman; mother and father-in-law, Patricia and George Taylor; brother-in-laws, Richard (Elizabeth) Speanburg and George (Maggie) Taylor; sister-in-law, Susan (Glen Lewman) Taylor; 9 nieces and nephews; and his life long friends, Thomas Patrizio, Matthew Doukas, Thomas Gibbs, Daniel Kunker, and Dan Landauer.
Tom was especially grateful for his brother, Art and sister Eileen for all their love and support.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, New York 12189 from 11:00am to 1:00pm with a memorial service to begin at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Thomas's name to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204.
