Thomas Power

GUILDERLAND-Thomas Powers, 84, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014 at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born in New York City on May 31, 1930, and raised in Long Island, NY. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1948. Tom was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. He worked in the New York City area as a construction foreman for various companies. In 1965, he and his family moved to the Albany area where he continued in the construction industry, most notably in the building of the South Mall and SUNY Albany. After owning a Dairy Queen restaurant for a period of time, he returned to the construction industry where he was involved in both residential and commercial construction until his retirement. During the early years of his retirement, he was a bus driver for the Guilderland Central School District. Tom was a lifelong sports fan and loved to talk about the New York Mets and Giants with family and friends. He also enjoyed dining out at the many local restaurants and always had a funny story to tell.
Thomas is survived by his daughter Mary Regan (Michael) and son Michael Powers. He is also survived by three grandchildren Christopher, Matthew and Shaun Regan.
Thomas was predeceased by his wife Dorothy M. (Morris) Powers and by his daughter Jacqueline Powers.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 4 to 7 PM at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at 4:30 for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave. Albany.
Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
