Schenectady-Thomas W. Spiegel, 74, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Thomas was the son of the late Wesley and Mildred Spiegel. Thomas was the devoted husband to Agnes M. Spiegel. They were married for 54 years.
Tom was born and educated in Schenectady. He graduated from Linton High School in 1962. Tom served in the United States Navy for four years. He fought in the Vietnam War for 13 months and was honorably discharged in 1967. Tom was briefly employed by The Union Star and then went onto a career with The General Electric Company as a machinist for more than 35 years. During that time he also drove part time for Brown Bus Company.
Tom had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He especially loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching Sunday school with his wife Agnes and he also umpired girls softball and boys baseball. He was a referee for men's basketball as well. He loved sports and was an avid Red Sox, Mets, and Giants fan. You could always find him at his grandchildren's sporting events being their biggest fan. He was very proud of all five of them and he never missed a celebration for them. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Agnes (Paton) Spiegel, he is also survived by his daughters Kimberly Spiegel Allen (Wayne); Nancy Carpico (Tony); grandchildren Breanna, Alyssa, Taylor, Seth and Noah. He is also survived by a nephew and several nieces and cousins.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Wesley and Mildred Spiegel; brother William Spiegel.
Services will be held privately by the family.
