Thor E. Sandwick

Thor Sandwick passed away on August 1, 2024 peacefully at home. He was 92 years old. Thor was born June 16, 1932 in Albany, New York. He is the son of Thor and Emma Sandwick. Thor was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Ruth.

Thor enlisted in the Army where after training at Fort Dix, he was stationed in Germany as a mapmaker. Thor started as an apprentice at GE in Schenectady, before joining IBM in Kingston, NY where he spent the rest of his career as a mechanical engineer. After retiring, Thor and Ruth wintered in Tucson, AZ before returning back to NY full time for the last 8 years. He enjoyed hiking the mountains around Tuscon, as well as becoming a fan of geocaching.

Survivors include his son Thom an daughter inlaw Deborah of Pleasant Valley NY, his son Scott and daughter inlaw Ann of Latham, his brother Clifford of Clifton Park, granddaughters Talia Sandwick of Brooklyn, Samantha Sandwick of Washington DC and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Howard, Leif and sister Mary.

He was very appreciative of the support of family and friends over the past year with his many health issues.

Funeral will be held at Unity Lutheran Church of Albany on at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 2024 with a private interment at Memory Gardens following.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Unity Lutheran Church in Thor’s memory.
