Todd C. Redding

October 15, 1963 — February 24, 2014

ALBANY - Last week, Todd Clifton Redding, age 50, succumbed to a congestive heart defect and the effects of living 44 years with Type 1 diabetes. He was at his home in Albany.

Todd, who preferred to be known as Spike, was a life-long resident of the Capital District. He was born in Troy, raised in Latham and Loudonville and was a resident of Lark Street after he graduated from the University at Albany with a BA in English.

Spike sported nine earrings, one for each year he worked in the sound business as proprietor of RedNoise Productions or as an employee of local clubs and bands. He was proud of his "placebo" dial, which was not attached to anything, but which placated those whose ears were not as refined as his. Spike mixed local and national bands from Poughkeepsie to Lake George, and toured with bands in the Southeast US. After starting in the business, Spike never had to buy another t-shirt. After his time on sound boards, he was never truly happy in the corporate world, but lent his precision and excellent command of the English language to jobs there.

Todd was generous, sometimes beyond his means, had a witty sense of humor and was good company. He was famous for game nights with his much cherished and devoted friends, entertaining them often in his home. Spike was a connoisseur of horror films, delighting in trivia about writers, actors, directors, cinematographers, lighting directors and anyone else who contributed to the genre. His favorite holiday was Halloween.

A highlight of his year was Todd's annual trip with his brother Dave. The two would plan a trip usually involving a bourbon distillery or two, and enjoy each other's company for a week as a way to stay close despite living on opposite coasts.

Spike was an ardent environmentalist who recycled anything that could be. He considered it his mission to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible. He was a gentle soul and will be missed.

Todd is survived by his mother, Alicia Todd Redding, sister and brother-in-law Alicia and John Van Buskirk of Seattle, sister and brother Ginna and Dave Redding and nephew Alex Van Buskirk of Orange County, California, and his nephew Nick Van Buskirk of Mechanicville.

The family is planning a private memorial ceremony. Donations in his honor may be made to Todd's favorite
