Udo Ammon

1942 — 2025

Schenectady

Schenectady- Udo Ammon, 82, was born in Posen, Germany, on May 10, 1942, and passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025. The son of Alexander and Elisabeth, Udo immigrated to the United States in 1952. He graduated from Proctor High School in 1960. Immediately after graduating, Udo enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country honorably as a Tank Commander and an MP while stationed in Germany.

While in Germany, he met his future wife, Rosina Heidi Marie Hausen. They were married in May 1963 and remained devoted to one another for over 61 years. As Udo's health declined in recent years, Heidi's actions embodied the meaning of 'in sickness and in health,' ensuring his every need was met with love and care.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Udo returned to New York in 1964 and lived in Schenectady for the rest of his life.

Udo worked as a weaver at Albany Felt/Albany International for many years. After retiring from Albany International, he held several part-time jobs. He operated a senior bus for a local nursing home. A safe driver, infinitely patient, and kind to the residents, Udo enjoyed the interactions, as did those in his charge.

With his calm, even-keeled temperament, witty observations, and dry sense of humor.

Udo was well-liked by everyone who knew him. His family was central to his life, and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Udo was active in his sons' lives, from Boy Scouts to Little League and other youth activities; he always prioritized his family, all while working full-time and overtime. Becoming a grandparent was a joy to him, and he relished the role and time spent with each grandchild. In his spare time, Udo was an avid stamp collector and member of various stamp clubs. He enjoyed simple pleasures: Saturday trips to local bakeries, butchers, and grocery stores; garage sales: reading and working on his stamp collection.

Udo was predeceased by his father, Alexander Ammon; mother, Elisabeth Ammon: brother, Bruno Ammon; sister, Kira Hoelzli; sister, Rita McGee: and granddaughter. Sarah Ammon.

Udo is survived by his wife, Rosina Heidi Marie Ammon ('Heidi'), and his children, Udo(Donnalyn) Allain Ammon and Christopher Georg (Christine) Ammon.

His surviving grandchildren include Emily Catherine, Alexander Michael (Bud), Andrea Marie (Peeps), and Ethan Christopher.

Udo loved dogs who were treated as adored four-legged family members throughout the years. Recently, felines became a part of the family.

During the recent difficult times, Udo's family is forever grateful for the support and assistance from the Albany Veteran's Administration Hospital, Community Hospice, and Shaker Place in Colonie, NY. We thank friends and family, including Kent and Ann Marie Selner, for being there to lend support.
