Velma Booker 87, was born on February 7, 1933 in Avera, GA. She passed away on April 6, 2020 at Shaker Place Nursing Home, Albany, NY.

She grew up in Avera, GA., where she met and married the late John F. Blair. They moved to New Jersey and had four sons, John (Della) Blair, the late Dennis Blair, Willie Blair, and the late Freddie Blair, of Albany, NY. She later moved to Albany, NY. Where she met and married her 2nd husband, the late Asbury Booker. She gained two stepchildren from that union, the late Paul (Sandy) Booker, of Schenectady, NY; and Mary Ann Sherman of Albany, NY.

Velma became a member of Albany Church of Christ and was baptized in the 70's; after studying with the late Becky Crutchfield, Timothy Looker, and former members, Tony and Marty Desorres,

She retired from St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY, where she worked as supervisor of housekeeping for over 30 years. She enjoyed traveling. She dearly loved and took care of her family and friends. She loved cooking, cleaning, gardening and watching TV in her favorite spot at the kitchen table. She kept her home filled with love and showed hospitality toward her many visitors. Velma loved to read her bible and often had bible studies at her home. Velma was loved by many and she will be missed dearly.

Velma was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Lena Walden, sons, Freddie Blair and Dennis Blair of Albany, NY, Paul Booker of Schenectady, NY, sisters Helen Stone, Inell Walden, Fay (Lars) Stephens, Mary (Tom) Williams, and Clara Lee Roberts.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, John (Della) Blair, Willie Blair of Albany, NY, step daughter, Mary Ann Sherman, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, sisters, Lois Hudson of Albany, NY, Gladys Flournoy of Atlanta, GA, Carolyn Terrell of Wrens, GA, a special daughter, Vanessa McKay of Albany, NY, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
