Velma L. Kent, passed away at her home on May 9, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old.
The daughter of the late Henry and Mary Allen, Velma was born on March 27, 1930 in Oakdale, LA. At an early age, Velma moved to New York City. After graduating high school she married Jack Kent Sr. She later moved to Albany where she raised her 2 children. She worked for Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer until her retirement. She was an active member of St. John's /St. Anne's Church where she spent a lot of her free time volunteering. Velma loved to bowl and was a member of the Palladium senior league.
Velma is survived by her children: Jack and his wife Mary Kent and Jamielah Oliver; her grandchildren: Brianna (Paul) Nero, Stephanie Kent and Oliver (Ashley) Kent; her sister Vernell Allen; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents Velma was predeceased by her husband Jack, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am on Monday, May 18 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 11 am at the funeral home celebrated by Fr. Hayes. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont.
