Kostas, Veni
Albany – Veni Kostas, 89, passed away peacefully Thursday January 13, 2011 at the Stratton VA Medical Center with his dear friend and companion, Martha, at his side.
Veni was born in Albany a son of the late Semela Kizirides and Kostas Dakchoylous and was a lifelong area resident. He proudly served in the US Navy during WW II from 1942 – 1946 and worked for the federal government for many years, retiring as a Police Officer at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Veni enjoyed the outdoors, which included gardening and especially fishing.
In addition to Martha, he is survived by his daughter Diane Kostas, son Rev. John (Janis) Kostas and dear friend Ed Chenette.
His family would like to thank the staff of the Stratton VA Medical Center, especially the Hospice Unit, for the care and comfort provided to Veni during his illness.
A funeral service will be celebrated Monday 10:00am at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany. A calling hour will be held Sunday 1:30 to 2:30pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie with the Trisagion Service at 2:30pm. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
